Tip of the Day : Don’t Forget To Hold The Chalk!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Here’s a quick tip for those of you with pool tables – i’m sure it’s happened to you, it’s certainly happened to me – chalk, that cube of powder that you twisle on your cue as you contemplate your next move – where do you keep it ?

It’s so small, yet there doesn’t really seem to be anywhere good to keep it!

There are a few choices, on the side of the table – but then it always seems to get in the way of a shot!

In the ball return – but then it’s always a pain to find!

Or on a random shelf somewhere in your room, but then again you have to find it, and you also have to have shelves! A pain for all the minimalists out there…

But don’t worry for just £4.49 all your chalk-related worries can be over for ever! A great relief i’m sure. Ok so it’s not the biggest problem ever faced by mankind, but then again it is important to take care of the little things!

Our rubber chalk holder keeps the chalk snugly inside, whilst still being easy to change when needed, and the string allows it to be tied to anywhere you see fit, normally a pool table or a scoreboard.

So there we have it! problem solved!

As always if there are any other ‘little things’ regarding your pool table or any other games room equipment that Liberty Games can help solve, just give on of our specialist advisers a call free on 0800 612 8180.

Keep Those Pool & Snooker Balls Clean!

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Before I start let me just say that I am well aware of the the quite substantial possibilities for some double entendres here, but I shall politely decline. What I am going to talk about is the different ways you can ensure you keep your pool or snooker balls in tip-top condition, playing their best and ensure they last a lifetime.

Apart from the quality of the table and the cue the quality of the balls you are playing with is the next big thing that can really affect the quality of your game. When we sell a table with free accessories (as they all are!) or a set of balls, we do always try to remind our customers of the importance of maintaining their tables to get the most life out of them, and this includes the balls as well.

So what’s the best way to keep the balls clean an shiny?

Well the answer to that depends on your budget… We sell Aramith Billiard Ball Cleaner which is specially designed to be used with pool and snooker balls, is non-abrasive and won’t affect any of the compounds used in billiard ball manufacture. Coming in at a respectable £12.95 including free delivery this is an investment that’s well worth it.

However for the more professional amongst you we have automatic ball polishing machines (8 and 16 ball models available). These may be slightly over-kill for the home player but for commercial environments where customers demand the highest standards in table and ball quality these machines can save you in the long-term. These machines will automatically clean and polish the balls for you in a way which doesn’t deform the ball, ensuring not only beautifully polished balls, but also balls which play as well as when they were brand new!

So there we have it, there are many old wives tales circulating the Internet about the best way to clean your billiard balls, but these are the ways we here at Liberty Games suggest to our customers. Don’t forget if you have any questions at all about our ball cleaning products or any of our other pool table accessories just give on our our pool & snooker specialists a call free on 0800 612 8180.

How to make your pool table free-to-play or change the price of play ?

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Ok so here’s a question we hear being asked fairly often in the pool table market : I have a coin-op pool table, and I want it to be free-play.

Simple request but as many pool tables don’t come with any instructions, one which can be quite difficult to answer!

Today we’ll show you how to do it for a mechanical coin mechanism.

Luckily like most things that seem complicated its actually quite simple, and this is how you do it:

  1. You’ll need access to the coin mechanism, this varies depending on the table but it will generally involve opening up the ball return draw using the supplied keys.
  2. From the top of the coin mech you will be able to see the different ‘lanes’ for the coins, you will probably have some blanked-off and some left open where the coins currently get placed to release the balls and commence the game.
  3. Hopefully you will still have some spare blanking plates from when the coin mechanism was supplied (if you don’t then please call our pool table supplies department on 0800 612 8180 who will be able to supply some for a very reasonable charge).
  4. Simply blank off the remaning lanes in the coin mechanism so that all lanes are blanked.
  5. Now to release the balls you simply push the mechanism through with no coins in.

Hopefully you will find that reasonably easy. However in case you need to change the price of play, or need some pictures to show you we’ve scanned in the manual to the Essex coin-mech for you below:

Best of luck!

Product Focus : Pool Table Battery Pack

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Ok so this is probably not the most exciting blog post i’ve ever written. This products isn’t as sexy as many of our cool games room equipment, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important! The fact is we are asked for these all the time, what am I talking about ? The pool table battery pack.

If you’re asking youself what this is and why you would need it then chances are you don’t! This pack provides the juice for electronic coin operated pool tables (sometimes known as pub pool tables), to run on. However not all tables that take coins will need one of these, if it’s a mechanical mechanism (where you insert the coins and push through to release the balls), then your hand is providing all the energy necessary.

However if you have to press a button to release the balls or drop coins through a slot and the table releases the balls for you, and its not plugged in to the mains (often they aren’t plugged in due to the lack of suitable plug sockets where pool tables normally live – in the centre of rooms) – then the table needs to get its power from somewhere – and this is where!

Now most people who own electronically operated pool tables don’t even know they have one of these inside until the day someone puts some money in and nothing happens. They they realise that (a) they need a new battery back and (b) they are really hard to find!

Luckily as the number 1 pool table specialists in the UK we not only sell a great range of tables, cues and balls we also hold a healthy stock of every kind of part or accessory you could possibly need. Even if you don’t see it on our website, give one of our experienced sales advisers a call free on 0800 612 8180 and they’ll do their very best to find it for you.

So there we have it, the humble, small, but in certain cases essential pool table battery pack!

Please note that this isn’t the only battery pack out there for pool tables, so please check with our pool table parts section to make sure you choose the right one for you!

Product Focus : Spare Table Football Balls

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Table Football Table BallsWe like to run a family-friendly blog here at Liberty Games so i’ll leave any double entendres to one side for now, and just get on with the blog post! Let’s face it table football balls are easily lost, what with being pinged around inside the table at high speeds, they do lend themselves to flying off, never to be seen again…

Still that’s where Liberty Games can help! Admittedly not the easiest thing to find on sale, we’ve actually got one (if not the) largest selection of table football table balls for sale on the internet. Some people we speak to think that a range of these isn’t necessary as they are all the same, which they aren’t. We have both standard balls (which come in varying sizes – more on that in a minute) as well as competition and high control balls (don’t forget that table football is enjoyed competitively the world over).

So if you are looking for replacement balls for a table, the first important consideration is the size of the ball you need. Although there isn’t much in it, and in many cases most balls will fit most tables it is important to check that the balls you are buying are suitable for the table you have.

Liberty Games sell balls ranging from 33-35mm, so for the balls you like the look of you need to check that they will fit in the goal (and any ball return mechanism), as well as not pass completely under the players feet (although this is unlikely).

You will also want to consider the material the balls are made of, most notably with regard to the noise the balls make during play, as well as the playign characteristics of the balls themselves. For example plastic balls will make more noise that cork balls which are more inclined to absorb the sound energy rather than reflect it.

As mentioned before there is also the matter of competition and professional balls, these are what the pros play with! If you are an aspiring amateur or professional foosball player then for a small charge you can learn to play with the very ball used in the world cup and other competition matches, which have their own unique play characteristics.

So there we have it, more to the world of foosball balls than any of us thought! Don’t forget you can check out our entire range right here, and each ball has a full description giving its dimensions and characteristics.

As always if you need any further advice please call one of our table football advisers free on 0800 612 8180.

Make your pool / snooker table pay!

pool and snooker table coin operated light meter

The SCR Timesafe Light Meter

When we say make your table pay, we don’t mean it in the style of an 80′s action movie hero, more in the 2010 cash-in-your-pocket style!

Here at Liberty Games we sell a great range of coin-operated pool tables, however some people prefer to have a more luxury pool table, or indeed snooker table in their establishment or house. These sometimes can be ordered with a coin-mechanism for pay-per-play, but not all can. So where do you go if you want to make some money from these great tables ?

There is the tried and trusted method of renting out the cues / balls, which does work, but requires the hassle of having to obtain security deposits, and we have known a situation or two where people have even brought their own cues and balls and just started playing!

One way around this and to give people a great playing experience is, in combination with our pool and snooker lighting, to install a light meter. We have several models here, which can all be found in our pool table accessories department. The one we’re taking a look at today is the SCT Timesafe Light Meter.

The SCT works by controlling electricity to the lights, and in return for either 10p, 20p, 50p £1, €1 or tokens the player is given a pre-determined (determined by you!) amount of time with the lights on. Simple as that. You keep the keys, and the cash.

These do need to be installed by a qualified electrician, but its a simple job and so shouldn’t be too expensive, and Liberty Games are happy to help organise someone for you.

So if you’re ready to start earning, give one of our helpful pool and snooker advisers a call on 0800 612 8180.
