Fruit Ninja Arcade Machine : EAG Report

Continuing in our series of reports from the annual EAG amusement industry trade show in London, today we have another of our favorite arcade machines from the show. This time rather than a classic arcade game re-born we’re talking about one of the most popular smartphone games so far transformed into a sure-fire arcade classic, it can only be…

Fruit Ninja!

Well actually make that Fruit Ninja FX…

This cool looking machine instantly caught our eye with its colourful cabinet and 46″ multi-touch screen / controller, which brings a new dimension to arcade gaming – which has been dominated by the classic joystick and buttons for many years. The creators Adrenaline Amusements have taken a leaf out of the huge popularity of mobile gaming by making the experience a lot more hands on, while instantly removing one of the main issues with mobile gaming – the small screen!

The gameplay remains largely unchanged from the mobile game, however the huge touchscreen really brings the game to life, making it feel like you are really chopping away at the fruit yourself.

There is also no denying the look and attractiveness of this machine, as many of the attendees of the EAG show couldn’t leave the machine alone! From our point of view it was certainly one of the most in-demand games at the whole show.

Although the creators are clearly tagging onto the already well-entrenched “Fruit Ninja” branding, it would be nice to see a range of touch-screen games offered in the one cabinet as the technology packed in there must be able to handle it. Still the Fruit Ninja game was proving so popular on its own that there didn’t seem to be any need for other games in the cabinet, it was booked up all day long!

New Arcade Machines! Report from the EAG

For those involved in home consoles and entertainment it’s the CES show that rocks their world, whereas for us at Liberty Games the annual EAG show held in London every year is where the latest and greatest arcade machines are put on display by the big manufacturers before they launch.

As always we’ve sent down our intrepid team of product buyers and bloggers to source the coolest new products for our website but to also open the doors to this trade-only event.

Over the next few days we’ll be putting up details of some of the coolest new products we’ve seen, and giving you the chance to let us know if you’d like to see them on sale here at Liberty Games!

So without any further ado (and in no particular order) is our first pick!

Frogger

This is one arcade that certainly caught our eye, if for nothing else than it was really good to see Frogger back where it all started – in the arcade!

However the gameplay in this new incarnation is a little different from the original. Although Frogger’s mission is still to reach the swampy goodness of his wetland home, this time round he is a bit more independent. Well make that a lot more independent, as the only interaction required from the player is to set frogger off on his journey.

While this may seem boring to many, and is bound to infuriate some fans of the original, it does add a different challenge to the gameplay in that you have to time his release perfectly to ensure he makes his way safely.

However what this machine may lack in playability it makes up for in prizes! Designed primarily as a ticket-redemption game, tickets are earnt for eating a variety of other woodland creatures en-route as well as making it to various parts of the screen.

This means a well timed release can earn you a huge number of tickets, which if you are in an arcade can then be exchanged for some goodies at the desk!

All in all it is good to see some new life being put into the Frogger franchise, and hopefully if this machine is a hit in commercial premises (or even people’s homes) then perhaps a full on reboot of the game could be put into action.

But… you don’t just have to take my word for it, here’s a short bit of video we managed to capture of this arcade machine in action, take a look and judge for yourself!

Angry Birds Outdoor Action Game – Coming Soon!

Angry Birds Outdoor Action GameCalling all Angry Birds fans! Those pesky pigs are back, but this time they have leapt out of the digital world and into your garden!

That’s right, although we’ve seen these cute little fellas in plush-toy form before, they now come ready to bring their full-on adventures into the real world.

The Angry Birds Outdoor Game premise is the same as the hugely popular video game, with your job being to guide the egg-deprived birds through the air to take out their pig nemesis. The pigs are sat upon wooden blocks just like in the game, except this time there is a score board to reward you depending on where the piggy lands – with being near the target more rewarding than far away. The winner of each round gets a star with the winner of the game the first one to the agreed number of stars!

Simple eh? Well that’s what many people thought when they first grabbed the app on their phones, but were soon to be proven wrong!

The game doesn’t stop there though, extra add-on pieces will be available enabling you to add more players – or indeed more pigs – to the game giving it a real long-term appeal.

The Angry Birds Outdoor Game, which is fully licensed by developer Rovio, will be coming to Liberty Games in early May, retailing at £24.99

Here at Liberty Games if there are two things we love its video games and outdoor games, so by combining the two we were always going to love this!

Great for outdoor fun in your garden or for showing off in the local park or even the beach, we’re sure this great game is going to be one of the big hits of the summer.

Great news for Flight Sim fans – New Microsoft Flight Coming Soon!

Those of you who are into your flight simulators may well be familiar with out Liberty flight simulator cockpit, which has been designed to give flight-sim fans the true immersive experience that flight simulator software was designed for.

The Liberty Flight-Sim currently comes with Microsoft Flight-Sim X (by default – although x-plane is also available), which although being a simply awesome piece of software – with true realistic controls – was last released in 2006. Now we’re into 2012 a reboot was well in order, and despite rumors of the break-up of the original flight sim team, msnbc reports that in the spring we can expect the simply titled ‘Microsoft Flight’!

Although the title is slated to be released for free, it looks as if MS will be looking to cash in on the in-game purchases such as planes and scenes.

No technical details on the graphical capabilities have been released so far, however we’re hoping that the new title will be able to take advantage of the improvements in processor and graphics performance that have happened since 2006.

Product Focus : Golden Tee

If you ask any regular pub-goer to name one arcade machine, what do you think would be top of their list ? Apart from the ever-present fruit machines electronic entertainment hasn’t really made its way into pubs apart from one more than notable exception – the Golden Tee!

Originally launched in 1989 and making its 3D debut in 1995 Golden Tee provides an effortless but addictive gaming experience that is enjoyable not only on your own but is also great amongst a group of friends, making it an ideal pub game. Plus you only really need one hand, so great for those of us who like to nurse a pint while enjoying a game or two.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Golden Tee game-play, as the name suggests it is a gold game, where you have to play your way around a course in as few strokes as possible. You have full choice over club selection (although your a helpfully automatically suggested clubs that fit the distance you are aiming for), but as always with gold you are at the mercy of the wind. This is where the unique golden tee trackball comes in, allowing you to now only power your shot (by pulling the ball back then powering it forward) but also adding spin and direction to the shot.

This trackball is what really lead to the success of golden tee as a game, and helped it succeed where other admittedly dull golf games failed.

Happy Birthday Terminator 2!

The TerminatorSo its pretty much 20 years to the day since Terminator 2 : Judement Day was released in the USA (we got it a little later here in the UK). For all the staff here at Liberty Games this was an awesome day, T2 is in all out top ten lists of great films, its classic Arnie.

So when I popped into our arcade machine refurbishment facility this morning, I had to do a double take when I saw one of the robots from the future (well head and shoulders only) looking back at me from the floor!

Luckily I hadn’t stumbled upon skynet’s latest plan to eliminate John Connor, it was simply one piece of the super cool Terminator Salvation arcade machine, which is currently undergoing refurbishment in preparation for one of our customers. If you’re a Terminator fan (or indeed an arcade fan in general) then I don’t need to sell you this game, standing a good 8ft tall this is an arcade you can’t ignore!

On the Terminator theme we’re still waiting for more stock of the T3 pinball machine, hopefully we should have some back soon, as I miss wasting my lunch hours on this game! Moving Arnie head… enough said.

Anyway before I make a note to fetch out my T2 DVD this evening, don’t forget that here at Liberty Games we have the only dedicated arcade & pinball refurbishment centre in the UK, giving us the ability to offer you true arcade classics at home retail prices. Frontier Arcade spotted in the dark!

We’ve got a special treat for all the fans of our awesome Frontier Customisable Arcade Machine out there! Today we managed to turn the lights off in our showroom (don’t worry no-one stubbed their toe!), so we could grab some shots of our unique arcade machine doing what it does best – looking uber cool.

The photo on your right shows the illuminated buttons option on the frontier, and well the picture says it all really. We think this is about as good as any arcade has looked before and all the Liberty Games staff are now salivating at the thought!
