Traditionally football tables have been manufactured with solid rods, this means the ends of the rods poke through the table side. In recent years as the home market has increased for football tables manufacturers have introduced “telescopic” rods. These rods are designed as a sleeve so that they will still move in and out but not poke through the opposite side of the table.

Telescopic rods are often considered a safer option when buying a table for the home.
