Product Description
Italy is known throughout the world for its love and fanatical devotion to two things; football and cars. Now FAS Pendezza has combined those two obsessions in the Capri, a fabulous and superbly stylish football table which pays tribute to one of the coolest little cars of all time.
A very special edition of FAS’s Ciclope table, the Capri is inspired by the Fiat La Spiaggina of the late 1950s and contains a number of elements designed to reflect the key features of the little car, even down to the Capri blue colour in which many of the Fiats were finished.
Conceived as a fun beach cruiser – ‘la spiggiana’ means ‘the little beach’ – the 1950s Fiat was based on the very popular Fiat 500 model. However, it rapidly was customised to be perfect to cruise the seafront, bar hop or even to transport you on land from your yacht! It became the beach runabout of choice of the rich and famous, including Yul Brynner, Aristotle Onassis and the head of Fiat himself, Gianni Agnelli.
The Capri highlights details from the car such as the colour and the wicker texture printed playing surface, a direct link to the wicker seats of the Spiggiana (well, you didn’t want your wet swimming costume or wet suit to spoil your upholstery!), complete with silk screen printed lines.
The colour was selected by FAS Pendezza to reflect not only the colour of many Spiggianas but also the sea around Naples, a city with an illustrious footballing history and home to SSC Napoli, the most successful southern Italian football club of all time. You may never play for Naples, but you will feel as if you could when you immerse yourself in a game on the Capri.
The top is made of tempered glass, ensuring both safety and clarity, while gorgeous wood detailing has been chosen to complement the blue livery of the metal cabinet.
A football table which pays homage to both such a popular Italian automobile and to the country’s footballing heritage needed to rise high above the usual boxy design of foosball tables. To ensure that the Capri would set new standards among table football tables, FAS collaborated with Basaglia & Rota Nodari, leading Italian designers.
This partnership resulted in a move from the traditional table leg formation common to decades of football tables, replacing the legs with a single conical base which gives both elegance and stability to the table making it a handsome centrepiece for any room or patio.
There’s one more connection to the Spiggiana. Just as the Fiat was designed to cruise the beach, the Capri can also be set up on the beach – or in your garden or patio or anywhere outside – thanks to its epoxy powder coating which allows it to be used outside as happily as inside.
The centre support gives the table excellent rigidity and stability while you will be able to concentrate on your best game without bumping into corner legs. Players are set up in a configuration that Naples would recognise, the standard European 1-2-3-5 formation. The telescopic steel rods run through beautiful teak detailing, while the ball return and scorer are also mounted on hand finished wood panels.
