About the Game
Your mission, as captain of the Defender, is to protect the humanoids stranded on the planet from their alien abductors.
The scanner will help you determine a strategy to shoot down the alien ships before they reach the humanoids.
If you destroy the aliens only after they've captured their prey, you must return the humanoids to the safety of the planet or they will fall to their death!
The challenge becomes ever more intense as the action progresses, with fighter ships and mines testing your skill!
Pinball giant Williams was evidently swayed by the burgeoning video game success and rapidly developed Defender.
Initially expected to flop due to an unorthodox control system, it went on to become the highest grossing game of 1980 and led to Williams establishing itself as a major competitor.
This prototype cabinet features a full colour Star Wars inspired artwork which was eventually abandoned for a two-colour stencil design.
